Robbery (Home Invasion) – 54 Division

A 30 year old female and 52 year old male report that on February 17, 2011 at approximately 0045 hours, they were in their dwelling located in the area of Warner Avenue and Bartley Avenue.  Two male suspects wearing disguises, one armed with a sawed-off shotgun forced their way inside.  The suspects grabbed the victims, and ordered them to lie on the floor.  The victims complied.  The suspects tied the victim’s hands with duct tape and ransacked the dwelling.  The suspects removed a quantity of jewellery and cash, and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.  No injuries were sustained by the victims.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspects #1-#2: Male, white, 40-45 years, 5’5”-6’0”.

On Wednesday, Janaury 16, 2011, at 1:45 a.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in
the Donlands Avenue/Danforth Avenue area.

It is alleged that:
− a 18−year−old man was at bar on Danforth Avenue,
− three men then surrounded the man,
− one of the men pulled out a handgun,
− the victim was shot in the stomach,
− the men then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non−life−threatening injuries.

Orginnally it was reported the shooting occurred at Donlands subway station but police later
found out the shooting happened at a bar in the Donlands Avenue/Danforth Avenue.

On Thursday, February 17, 2011, police executed five search warrants in the GTA.

It is further alleged that:
− police seized a gun holster and other related evidence.
− police also arrested two men.

Akins Fortune, 22, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Attempted murder while using certain firearm,
2) Aggravated assault,
3) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence,
4) Disarming a Peace Officer,
5) Obstruct Peace Officer,
6) Assaulting a peace officer.

Kibrom Tesfay, 18, of Toronto,
1) Attempted murder while using certain firearm,
2) Discharge firearm endanger life,
3) Aggravated assault,
4) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence,
5) Fail to comply Recognizance.

Shaun Davis, 28, of Toronto, is wanted for:
1) Attempted murder while using certain firearm,
2) Aggravated assault,
3) Conspiracy to commit indictable offence.

He is described as black, 5’8″, 140 lbs, black hair.

He is to be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is
urged to call police.

An 18 year old female reports that on February 17, 2011 at approximately 1800 hours, she was in the area of Martin Grove Road and Rampart Road when she was approached by a male suspect. The suspect produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s cell phone. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene towards the John Garland Plaza. No injuries were sustained by the victim. Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described person in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect: Male, black, 20 to 25 years, 6’0”, 229 pounds, heavy build.

A 29 year old male reports that on February 17, 2011 between 1700 hours and 1745 hours, he was entering his apartment unit in the area of Danforth Road and Gordonridge Place when he was approached from behind by two male suspects. The suspects forced their way into the apartment and a struggle ensued. The suspects produced handguns and struck the victim about the head. The suspects removed a quantity of jewellery, the victim’s wallet and a cell phone and then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim received minor injuries but refused medical attention. Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1: Male, 20 to 25 years, 5’8” to 5’10”, medium build. Suspect #2: Male, black, 25 to 30 years, 6’0” to 6’2”, medium build.

One suspect produced a firearm, held it to the victim’s head and made a demand for his vehicle.  The victim did not comply. A struggle ensued, and the suspects fled the scene empty handed in an unknown direction. The victim sustained minor injuries but declined treatment.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1:  Male, black, long brown hair. Abduction\Robbery – 53 Division

A 21 year old male reports that on February 17, 2011 at approximately 2200 hours he was in an apartment building stairwell in the area of Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Blvd when he was approached by six male suspects. Two of the suspects produced firearms, and the victim was hit, kicked and punched about the head and body numerous times by all six suspects.  One of the suspects removed a wallet, a quantity of cash, jewellery and a cellular telephone from the victim.  The suspects then forced the victim into a vehicle and drove around for a period of time before the victim was able to escape.  The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital by Toronto EMS for treatment. Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1:  Male, 20 – 25 years, 5’11” – 6’0”, 150lbs – 161lbs, thin build. On Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 5:27 a.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in the
Weston Road/Lawrence Avenue West area.

It was reported that:
− police located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head,

He was taken to hospital with life−threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, February 16, 2011, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Okene Thompson, 20, of Toronto.

A post−mortem examination is scheduled for Friday, February 18, 2011.

On Friday, February 18, 2011, Kirk Vernal, 30, of Toronto, was charged with:
1) First Degree Murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, February 22,
2011, room 206, at 10 a.m.

On Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11:37 a.m., police responded to a call for unknown
trouble at 150 Burrows Hall Boulevard.

It is reported that:
− police located a 16−year−old girl with vital signs absent,
− she was taken to hospital where she is in critical condition.

It is further reported that:
− on Saturday, February 19, 2011, two armed men knocked on the victim’s door,
− the victim’s 40−year−old mother answered the door and the two men forced their way into
the home,
− one man, armed with a gun, forced the mother to accompany him while he opened various
doors throughout the house, while the second man stayed with her daughter,
− the men were looking for a specific item.

The suspects are described as black, with heavy Jamaican accents, 5″9−6′, wearing suits and
overcoats.

A 34 year old male reports that on February 21, 2011 at approximately 1800 hours, he was driving his vehicle in the area of Danforth Avenue and Lamb Avenue, when he was approached by three male suspects, armed with handguns and a knife.  The victim stopped the vehicle and the suspects demanded the victim exit the vehicle.  The victim complied and the suspects removed the victim’s cellular phone and a quantity of cash and sports equipment.  The suspects then fled the scene in the vehicle, southbound on Lamb Avenue.  No injuries were sustained by the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1: Male, black, 18 to 21 years, 5’9” to 5’10”, 154 to 165 pounds, thin build, black hair.  Suspect #2: Male, black, 18 to 21 years, 5’9” to 5’10”, 150 to 169 pounds, medium build, black hair.  Suspect #3: Male, white, 16 to 19 years, 5’7” to 5’8”, 200 to 229 pounds, heavy build, blond hair.
