Robbery (Vehicle Jacking) – 23 Division

A 54 year old male reports that on November 4, 2010 at approximately 1933 hours, he had just parked his vehicle on the driveway of his home in the area of Islington Avenue and St. Andrews Boulevard when he was approached by two male suspects.  The suspects made a demand for keys to the victim’s vehicle.  The victim refused.  One suspect produced a handgun, held it to the victim’s head while the second suspect removed the car keys from his hands. One suspect then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle while the second suspect fled in an older model van dark or grey in color.  The suspects were last seen eastbound on St. Andrews Boulevard towards Islington Avenue.  No injuries were sustained the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1: Male, black, 35-40 years, 6’0”, muscular build.  Suspect #2: Male, black, 35-40 years, 5’6”, muscular build.

Robbery (Home Invasion) – 51 Division

A 39 year old female reports that on November 4, 2010 at approximately 1920 hours, she was in her dwelling in the area of Jarvis Street and Gerrard Street East when she answered a knock at the door.  Two males and a female suspect forced their way into the dwelling.  Once inside one male suspect produced a handgun and made a demand for cash, cigarettes and other valuables.   The suspects then ransacked the dwelling and removed a quantity of cash, cell phones and electronics. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction.  No injuries were sustained by the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1: Male, black, 5’7”-5’8”, thin build.  Suspect #2: Male, black, 5’7”-5’8”, thin build.  Suspect #3: Female, black – NO FURTHER DESCRIPTION AVAILABLE.

Newsworthy – 22 Division

On November 4, 2010 at approximately 2328 hours, Police responded to a radio call regarding sounds of gunshots to an apartment dwelling in the area of Mabelle Avenue and Dundas Street West.  Once on scene, Police located several bullet holes in and around the door.  The suspect(s) then fled the scene.  No injuries were sustained. Two men face 20 firearm−related charges, Two loaded handguns, cash and drugs seized

On Thursday, November 4, 2010, officers from 51 Division began an investigation into two men alleged to be in the possession of firearms.

It is alleged that:
− officers approached a parked car off of Gloucester Street, with two occupants inside − one in the driver’s seat and the other in the rear seat,
− as the officers approached the car, they identified themselves as police officers to the driver, who then tossed a handgun into the back seat,
− both men were arrested at this time.

It is further alleged that:
− a loaded handgun was located in the pocket of the man seated in the back seat,
− a loaded .38 Colt revolver, a loaded, 9mm Smith and Wesson semi−automatic firearm, a large quantity of marijuana and cash was also seized.

Christopher Reid, 31, and Jawara Brown, 29, both of Toronto, have each been charged with:
1. Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition,
2. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized,
4. Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence,
5. two counts of Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order,
6. Unauthorized Presence of a Firearm in a Vehicle,
7. Possess Firearm Knowing the Serial Number has been Altered, Defaced or Removed,
8. Possession for the Purpose Marijuana,
9. Possession Proceeds of Crime.

The accused were scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 5, 2010, at Old City
Hall, room 101, 10 a.m.

On Wednesday, November 3, 2010, officers from 51 Division Major Crime Unit, responding to community complaints about drugs, attended an apartment building on Sherbourne Street. As a result of this investigation, three men and a female young offender were arrested.

It is alleged that:
− a loaded .357 Smith and Wesson revolver, $2,000 worth of in crack cocaine and a small
quantity of marijuana were seized.

Andrew Cao, 20, of Toronto, is charged with:
1. Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition,
2. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized,
4. Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence,
5. Careless Storage of a Firearm,
6. Carry Concealed Weapon,
7. Weapons Dangerous,
8. Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order,
9. Possession for the Purpose Cocaine,
10. Possession Proceeds of Crime.

Ayman Yousif, 29, of Toronto, is charged with Possession for the Purpose Cocaine.

Liban Douale, 24, of Toronto, is charged with:
1. Possession for the Purpose Marijuana,
2. Fail to Comply Probation.

The accused appeared in court on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Old City Hall.

Robbery (Mugging) – 31 Division

A 58 year old female, reports that on November 5, 2010 at approximately 1140 hours, she was in her vehicle in the area of Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West when a male suspect approached and entered her vehicle.  The suspect produced a handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded money.  The victim complied.  The suspect threatened the victim and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.  No injuries were sustained by the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described person in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect:  Male, black, 25 to 27 years, 5’8” to 5’10”, thin build.

A 35 year old female, reports that on November 5, 2010 at approximately 2059 hours, she was in her residence on Brenyon Way when five male suspects wearing disguises and armed with handguns and a knife entered the premises by unknown means.  The suspects ransacked the premises in search of something and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.  No injuries were sustained by the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspects #1 to #5:  Male, black, 5’9” to 6’0”, 150 to 169 pounds, thin build.

Robbery (Home Invasion) – 41 Division

A 20 year old male that on November 3, 2010 at approximately 1330 hours he was in an apartment building on Lawrence Avenue East when he approached by four male suspects wearing disguises, one armed with a firearm.  The suspects forced the victim into his apartment.  The armed suspect pushed the victim into a room, while the other three suspects removed a quantity of cash, electronics, jewellery and clothing.  The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown direction.  No injuries were sustained by the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1:  Male, black, 5’8”-5’9”, medium build.  Suspect #2-#4: Male, NO FURTHER DESCRIPTION AVAILABLE.

Charges:  November 8, 2010 – Assault with intent to resist arrest, Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, Unauthorized possession of a firearm, Possession of firearm obtained by the commission of an offence, Firearm careless storage, Carless storage ammunition, Possess firearm knowing the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed, Possession for the purpose cocaine, Possession of cannabis under, Fail to comply recognizance x2.

Arrested and investigated by members of Number 51 Division.

On November 8, 2010 at approximately 1150 hours, police attended a school in the No. 51 Division to apprehend a young offender.  At that time the young offender resisted and assaulted the officers.  While the young offender was being subdued officers discovered that he was armed with a loaded handgun which was concealed in his waistband.  The safety for the firearm was in the off position and a cartridge was in the guns chamber ready to be fired.  Upon further inspection the firearm had the serial number removed.  On November 8, 2010, the Young Offender was arrested. Further investigation revealed at the time of arrest the Young Offender was is possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana.  It was also revealed that the young offender was breaching the conditions of his recognizance.  A warrant was duly executed. Charged accordingly. Investigation is continuing.

Newsworthy – 31 Division

A Toronto Transit Commission driver reports that on November 8, 2010 at approximately 1835 hours he was operating a bus northbound on Weston Road.  At this time the sound of gunshots, as well as the sound of objects impacting the bus were heard by the driver and passengers.  The driver stopped the vehicle in a safe location.  A that time there was observed to be several points of impact on the bus windows and on the side panel of the vehicle.

Robbery (Mugging) – 22 Division

A 23 year old male reports that on November 8, 2010 at approximately 2130 hours he was in the area of Dundas Street West and Burnhamthorpe Road when he was approached by a male and female suspect.  One suspect asked to use the victim’s phone.  The victim complied.  When the victim asked for his phone back, the suspect refused and displayed a firearm to the victim.  The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s phone in an unknown direction.  The victim sustained no injuries.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1: Female, black, 23-27 years, 5’1”, 150lbs, heavy build.  Suspect #2: Male, black, 25-31 years, 6’0”, thin build.

A 22 year old female and a 21 year old male report that on November 8, 2010 at approximately 2135 hours, they were in the area of Sheppard Avenue West and Northover Drive, when they were approached by a male suspect on a bicycle wearing a disguise.  The suspect produced a black pistol, grabbed the female victim’s purse and removed a wallet and camera.  A struggle ensued and the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.  No injuries were sustained by the victims.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described person in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect:  Male, 5’10”-5’11” medium build.  NO FURTHER DESCRIPTION AVAILABLE.

A 65 year old male reports that on November 9, 2010 at approximately 0130 hours, he was in the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Scarborough Golf Club road when he was approached by two male suspects.  The suspects produced a handgun and made a demand for property. The victim complied handing over a wallet containing a quantity of cash and identification. The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim did not sustain any injuries. Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described persons in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect #1: Male, black, 20 to 25 years, stocky build. Suspect #2: Male, black, 20 to 25 years.

A 16 year old male reports that on November 9, 2010 at approximately 0735 hours he was in the area of McCowan Road and Eglinton Avenue East when he was approached by a male suspect on a bicycle.  The suspect engaged the victim in a conversation.  At that time the suspect produced a handgun and made a demand for the victim’s wallet and MP3 player.  The victim complied.  The suspect then struck the victim and fled the scene on a bicycle southbound on McCowan Road.  The victim sustained minor injuries.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described person in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect: Male, black, 17-21 years, 2’6”-5’8”, 125lbs-134 lbs, thin build.

On Monday, November 8, 2010, at approximately 11:50 a.m., officers from 51 Division
executed a surety warrant in the area of Sackville Street/Winchester Street.

A 16−year−old boy, of Toronto, was arrested.

It is alleged that:
− the accused was found in possession of a 9mm handgun,
− officers also located a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana.

He is charged with:
1) Assault with intent to resist arrest,
2) Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition,
3) Possession of a firearm,
4) Possession possession of firearm,
5) Possession of firearm obtained by the commission of an offence,
6) Firearm careless storage,
7) Careless storage ammunition,
8) Possession firearm knowing the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed,
9) two counts of Fail to comply recognizance,
10) Possession for the purpose cocaine,
11) Possession of cannabis.

The accused cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Man charged in shooting at auto shop

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, at 10:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at a auto shop in the Warden Avenue/Eglinton Avenue East area.

It is alleged that:
− three employees were in the auto shop when a fourth employee walked in with a shotgun, fired one round into the ceiling, then fled the scene.

No one was injured.

On Monday, November 8, 2010, it is further alleged that:
− police executed a search warrant at the home of the suspect and the shotgun used was
located and seized, along with ammunition.

Thiruchchelvan Thanancheyan, 38, of Toronto, is charged with:
1. Careless Use of a Firearm,
2. Discharge Firearm Endanger Life,
3. Cause Disturbance by Discharging Firearm,
4. Weapons Dangerous,
5. Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device,
6. Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Ammunition.

He appeared in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, room 412, 10 a.m.

A 24 year old female employee of Cash Max, 2175 Weston Road, reports that on November 10, 2010 at approximately 1905 hours, a male suspect entered the premises, approached the counter and engaged her in a conversation.  The suspect produced a black handgun and made a demand for cash.  The victim pushed the panic alarm as she attempted to open the safe.  The suspect fled the scene on foot empty handed.  Police arrived on scene and gave chase.  K9 unit attended and performed a track with negative results.  York Regional Air Patrol unit attended and searched the area with negative results.  No injuries were sustained by the victim.  Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the following described person in connection with this offence.  Description of Suspect: Male, black, 20 to 25 years, 5’6” to 5’10”, medium build, brown eyes.

One man, two boys face nine charges in firearm investigation

The Toronto Police Service has charged three people in connection with a firearm
investigation.

It is alleged that:
− in February 2010, a 15−year−old boy attended Downsview Secondary School for the
purpose of selling a handgun,
− the firearm was then sold to two boys, aged 14 and 17.

All three boys have had birthdays prior to their arrests.

On Wednesday, November 10, 2010, a 16−year−old boy, of Toronto, was arrested and
charged with:
1) Trafficking in Firearms,
2) Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized,
3) Possession of Firearm for the purpose of trafficking.

On Tuesday, November 9, 2010, a 15−year−old boy, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1) Trafficking in Firearms,
2) Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized,
3) Possession of Firearm for the purpose of trafficking.

On Thursday, November 11, 2010, a 18−year−old man, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1) Trafficking in Firearms,
2) Possession of a restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized,
3) Possession of Firearm for the purpose of trafficking.

All three accused cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The 16−year−old was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on
Wednesday, November 10, 2010, room 204F, at 10 a.m.

The 15−year−old was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, November 11, 2010, room 101, at 10 a.m.

The 18−year−old is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Friday,
November 12, 2010, room 204F, at 10 a.m.

Police request assistance with shooting investigation, King Street West/Cowan Avenue

On Thursday, November 11, 2010, at approximately 7 p.m., police responded to a sound of gunshots call in the King Street West/Cowan Avenue area.

It is reported that:
− several shots were heard and two men were seen running south on Cowan Avenue,
− a short time later, a grey/silver minivan was seen driving east on Melbourne Avenue,
− police located numerous bullet casings on the ground and two parked cars had been struck, one on Cowan Avenue, one on Melbourne Avenue,
− a 22−year−old man arrived at hospital, on his own, with a non−life−threatening gunshot wound from this shooting.
